When the hot skull has left the pot, it does not always break. Before moving the skull, it must be cooled off, and in cases where many skulls are handled, the slag pit area is packed with skulls cooling off, waiting to be transported to the balling area.
Fractum is able to break the slag skull when it is still red-hot. The cooling rate is increased dramatically, and in most cases the skulls are being transported away from the slag pit within 24 hours. Further, when the skull is broken, the need for handling heavy material like wheel loaders, etc. is reduced. In some cases the drop balling is reduced dramatically because the material is sorted and send directly from the slag pit to the respectively processing areas.
